UFC 146 Betting Odds Preview

Originally a stacked night full of the top Heavyweights in the world, the UFC 146 fight card has undergone a few changes over the last few weeks. First Alistair Overeem was suspended, and then Mark Hunt had to pull out of the card due to injury.

However, last-minute replacements often offer MMA bettors some great opportunities, and Frank Mir in the Octagon against Junior dos Santos is definitely a betting opportunity. As a heavy -500 favorite at Bovada, dos Santos has the best boxing skills in the division and will dominate any standing portion of this fight.

Mir will have to avoid the hands of the champion and will need to work his takedown and grappling skills to better his chances of becoming champion for the third time. Mir will pay +370 at Intertops, but it’s tough to imagine how he’s going to get Cigano to the ground.

Cain Velasquez will face another huge opponent when he steps into the Octagon against Antonio Silva at UFC 146. Silva makes his UFC debut against the toughest opponent he’s ever faced and will need to land some power shots to get the upper hand as the +325 underdog at Bovada.

Velasquez will be coming off his first loss and will have a lot to prove at UFC 146. As the -375 favorite at Bovada, he’s expected to make Silva miss and counter with heavy shots. His speed should be the difference against his bigger, slower opponent.

Roy Nelson was originally supposed to fight Mark Hunt, but Hunt has been replaced by Dave Herman. Herman is coming off a KO loss to Stefan Struve and will likely have a lot of difficulty as the Intertops +170 underdog against the combination of technique and power that Nelson will bring.

Nelson currently comes at a good price of -220 at Intertops against an opponent who is ranked far below the competition that he’s faced over his entire time in the UFC. As long as he comes into the fight in decent shape his technique should be the difference.
