UFC 172 Betting: Jones vs. Teixeira Odds

Jon Jones, the pound-for-pound best MMA fighter in the world, will return to the Octagon this weekend to defend his UFC Light Heavyweight title for the seventh time in only three years.

The UFC 172 betting card will also feature another Light Heavyweight battle between Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and contender Phil Davis. UFC 172 odds action is already available on those fights as well as the other three main card matchups.

Jon Jones seemed like an unstoppable force before his narrow win over Alexander Gustafsson and now he faces an opponent who has won his last 20 fights in Glover Teixeira. Despite that winning streak, the challenger finds himself handicapped as a heavy +400 underdog at Bovada. Oddsmakers know that Teixeira has never faced anyone near the calibre of Jones and expect the champ’s technique to be the difference.

Jon Jones is coming at his usual expensive price, currently a -600 favorite at Bovada. That number is down from the initial -800 offering as some MMA bettors are taking the chance that Teixeira’s power could shock the world with a huge upset KO.

Anthony Johnson returns to the UFC following a two year absence that saw him go 6-0 in other MMA organizations. Now fighting at Light Heavyweight, Johnson has no more worries about making weight and can finally make a run at a title. Against Davis he is currently a +160 UFC 172 betting underdog and will be looking to stay off his back and punish his opponent with heavy hands and feet.

Davis is currently a -200 favorite on the UFC 172 odds, mainly because he is expected to take the fight to the ground and lay-and-pray his way to a decision victory. His grappling should be the difference as long as he doesn’t get caught with a heavy shot.

Middleweight contender Luke Rockhold returns to the Octagon as a heavy Bovada -900 favorite against Tim Boetsch. Expect Boetsch to look like a heavy bag in this one as Rockhold’s striking should be on full display. Boetsch may be tough enough to last the three rounds but will have to put on the performance of his career to have a chance at paying out on the +550 UFC 172 betting action on him to win at Bovada.
