UFC betting action at the sportsbooks returns this weekend with a Lightweight championship fight between former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez and current UFC Lightweight champ Benson Henderson.
UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez will also feature another good Lightweight battle between Josh Thomson and Nate Diaz as well as a contender Heavyweight fight between former UFC Heavyweight champ Frank Mir and Daniel Cormier.
Despite the fact that Melendez has seven straight victories oddsmakers at Bovada currently have the former Strikeforce champ handicapped as the +230 underdog against Henderson. He brings a complete fight game with a torrid pace that is sure to give the champ some problems.
Henderson is now ranked fifth on the UFC pound-for-pound list and is expected to have the footwork and striking to come out on top against his latest challenger. As the -250 favorite at BetOnline, he should be able to stick and move his way to another decision win.

Another Strikeforce standout will be making his Octagon debut when Strikeforce Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier faces Frank Mir. Still undefeated, the former Pan-Am Freestyle wrestling gold medallist is looking to take the final step he needs to earn his title shot. Currently a -375 favorite at BetOnline, his skilled wrestling and heavy hands should be too much for Mir to handle.
Mir will need to find a way to get Cormier into a position where he can utilize his submission skills for the upset. As the +325 underdog at Bovada, action on Mir is a tough call to make against one of the most promising Heavyweights in the UFC.
Nate Diaz returns to the Octagon for the first time following his title-shot loss to Henderson, and he faces yet another big-name Strikeforce fighter in Josh Thomson. Closely handicapped, it’s Diaz who gets the nod as the -175 favorite at BetOnline while the Thompson upset will pay +170 at Bovada.
With three losses in his last six fights Thomson will be in tough against Diaz, who will be looking to wear him down for either a decision or a submission win. Diaz also holds an edge over Thomson because his training partner, Melendez, has already beaten Thomson twice.
